I suppose I've been rather lazy as far as updating this...anyway, here's more or less what I've been listening to a lot over the past few months: Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun Grandaddy - The Sophtware Slump Le Tigre - Le Tigre Badly Drawn Boy - The Hour of Bewilderbeast Shalini - We Want Jelly Donuts Bratmobile - Ladies, Women and Girls JJ72 - JJ72 U2 - All That You Can't Leave Behind Radiohead - Kid A Cadallaca - Introducing Cadallaca Underworld - Everything, Everything The Glands - The Glands Momus - Stars Forever Idlewild - Hope Is Important Blur - Parklife Sleater-Kinney - Dig Me Out Björk - Selmasongs 08.09.2000 Apples In Stereo :: The Discovery Of A World Inside The Moon Really poppy, obviously influenced by the Beatles and the Beach Boys among others, but it's definitely not derivative, and has strong songwriting throughout the entire album. 07.31.2000 Future Sound of London :: Dead Cities I've been re-reading William Gibson's Neuromancer lately, and Dead Cities seems like a pretty fitting soundtrack to the novel, not to mention a brilliant piece of music. 07.28.2000 Manic Street Preachers :: This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours Even though it's nowhere near as good as Everything Must Go, it still has some good stuff (and some not-so-good) on it. 07.26.2000 Prolapse :: The Italian Flag Sort of Sonic Youth meets Stereolab, really remarkable stuff. 07.25.2000 Belly :: Star I hadn't listened to Belly in a very long time, but when I was listening to Throwing Muses yesterday I was reminded of them, since Tanya Donelly was a founding member of Throwing Muses. So I threw this on, and I gotta say it's an excellent album, and King isn't half bad, it's really too bad they broke up after that. 07.24.2000 Sonic Youth :: Daydream Nation Throwing Muses :: The Real Ramona 07.21.2000 Richard Ashcroft :: Alone With Everybody I don't know why I'm listening to this, it's really not all that great...a bit too MOR, though "Crazy World" is pretty catchy... 07.18.2000 I've already praised all these albums, so there's not much more to say: Magnetic Fields :: 69 Love Songs Super Furry Animals :: Mwng Sleater-Kinney :: Dig Me Out Sleater-Kinney :: Call The Doctor Asian Dub Foundation :: Community Music 07.17.2000 I put up a new revision of Revive over the weekend, which I quickly designed and coded after having a little burst of inspiration. Black Box Recorder :: The Facts Of Life Much more pop-sounding than their first album, but still dark lyrically...making for a very interesting listen. Of course Stephin Merritt is brilliant and I'm still obsessively listening to the Magnetic Fields box set... 07.14.2000 Sleater-Kinney :: Call The Doctor Corin Tucker has one of the best voices in rock music today. Magnetic Fields :: 69 Love Songs 07.13.2000 Pulp :: This Is Hardcore I suppose some people may have been disappointed with this because it had nothing quite as immediately catchy as "Common People" or "Disco 2000". Still, this is one hell of an album..."The Fear" alone is worth more than most bands' entire output. Magnetic Fields :: 69 Love Songs A given... 07.12.2000 Still Magnetic Fields... 07.11.2000 Asian Dub Foundation :: Community Music Of course I'm still listening to the Magnetic Fields, and I imagine I will be for quite some time, but this album has been growing on me...there's nothing quite as instantly catchy as some of the stuff off Rafi's Revenge, but it's probably more consistently good, and they have definitely been developing their sound...there's definitely some excellent stuff here, but whether or not it deserves the 10/10 rating the NME gave it is still in the air... 07.10.2000 Still listening to the Magnetic Fields boxed set...it's just too good...I don't think I could decide which of the 3 CDs is my favorite, they're all just phenomenal. 07.07.2000 Magnetic Fields :: 69 Love Songs Not surprisingly, I'm still familiarizing myself with the 3 hours of this. Having listened to it in its entirety twice, I still only have general impressions, but what impresses me most is not only the ease with which Stephin Merritt and co. bounce around genres, but also that the quality of the songs on all three CDs is remarkably high...it's really amazing. Still haven't listened to the Grandaddy album... 07.06.2000 I finally got a bunch of CDs I had ordered in the mail... Magnetic Fields :: 69 Love Songs I'm currently still listening to the 3rd disc for the first time, but I've been absolutely astounded by the quality, diversity, and quantity of these 3 CDs. Asian Dub Foundation :: Community Music Since I've been listening to the Magnetic Fields 3 CD set so much, I've only listened to this once so far, but it definitely left a good impression. If only there were more time in evey day, so much music, so little time... Grandaddy :: The Sophtware Slump Well, I haven't actually listened to this one yet...maybe I should have put on the Magnetic Fields last... 07.05.2000 Sleater-Kinney :: Call The Doctor Sleater-Kinney :: Dig Me Out Black Box Recorder :: England Made Me Brilliant black humor, dark subjects delivered in a cold, sugary package. Henry V by William Shakespeare (Kenneth Branagh film adaptation) I loved this version of Henry V but hadn't seen it in many years, until a Henry V quote in Watership Down reminded me of it: Let him depart; His passport shall be made And crowns for convoy put into his purse: We would not die in that man's company That fears his fellowship to die with us. Well I'm stuck at work cos I didn't want to waste one of my precious vacation days, but no one else is here so there's not much going on...at least I've got some good tunes. Super Furry Animals :: Mwng Gwych. Sleater-Kinney :: All Hands On The Bad One Brilliant. Super Furry Animals :: Out Spaced "You know they don't give a fuck about anybody else..." 07.02.2000 Watership Down by Richard Adams I'm only about 2/3 through this book, but I absolutely love it, I've not been so affected by a book since the first time I read The Silmarillion by Tolkien (which would be my favorite book of all time). 07.01.2000 while redesigning Intendo: Asian Dub Foundation :: Rafi's Revenge Their new album is in the mail...*waits impatiently* Doves :: Lost Souls Can't decide if they're good or just OK.
